Anonymous said: Just so you know MTAC changed management this year which is why it was so bad. The new management couldn’t afford the convention center but once they make the money they’ll be able to next year it’s just really hectic this year. it’ll be better again next year. My roommates were volunteering so they told me what's up. The convention center will have much more room and better air circulation next year I swear haha
"They changed management and couldn’t afford the Convention Center this year" sounds like an excuse, and a weak one at that - MTAC makes an assload of money, it grows bigger and bigger every year, and I saw plenty of veterans on staff from previous years that I’ve attended. My group of friends talked to a number of people that all confirmed it was not a scheduling or financial issue, we were simply not invited back to previous venues (the Convention Center included) because of the terrible way the MTAC attendees always act. I said in my previous post that the attendees are the ones to blame, not the staff entirely.
Yes it’s gross and over-crowded, yes it’s a complete clusterfuck of disorganization, yes a lot of people on staff were rude and confused, so a sudden change of hands might account for a number of these - but there were at least a handful of people that I’m sure did the best they could with the shit-fest they were handed.
What it comes down to, plain and simple, is THE ATTENDEES DON’T LISTEN. THEY DON’T FOLLOW SIMPLE RULES. THEY HAVE NO RESPECT FOR OTHER PEOPLE OR THE HOTEL.
I’ve been to three of these - my friend’s been to FIVE in THREE SEPERATE HOTELS. EVERY YEAR there are ambulances on-hand; people get trampled, people dehydrate, people faint, people act like dick fucks with no goddamn sense and drugs and alcohol both are a problem at the rave EVERY. YEAR. The police have been called to every convention I’ve attended and it’s a serious problem - the first year, they locked the hotel down, police all over the place, because people don’t know how to behave themselves in fucking public. We weren’t even allowed to leave our rooms or go out on the balconies to smoke or get some air, we were locked down until morning. It’s why we weren’t invited back to the Sheraton and I can place a fair enough guess that we weren’t invited back to the Convention Center for the exact same reason.
People think being at a convention entitles them to act like morons - they stand in the middle of the street, they’re rude and disrespectful - and in the end they’re the reason MTAC has gone down the toilet. They’re the reason a lot of people don’t have fun, the reason that staff becomes frustrated and rude, and they’re the reason this venue was too small, because it was the only hotel that would take us. I don’t expect to be invited back to it next year, either (and I certainly don’t want to come back, even if we are).
If you still want to attend, that’s your business, but don’t try to placate all the people that know when enough is enough and are fed the fuck up. And the next time you leave dozens of people Anonymous messages trying to ‘clear the air’, buck up and do it off anon.
